A very honest and fair assessment of Shero's trades. Kinda the opposite of the dude who wrote about Dorion's trades as GM of Ottawa
Not even an "A+" for the Hall trade??? In my mind, there aren't enough "+" signs in the world to tack on to that one....
Overall, he's done a hell of a job in Jersey. Even the misses aren't devastating

Hall would have been A+++ but I noted in the intro I was only handing out A, B, C, and D. No pluses or minuses. |

You bring a solid point to the Vats trade. However it can be said the same to Sami as a Duck, He wasn't going to be resigned here for the money he was going to want and Brandon was passing him on the depth chart as well. Also I'll take 20 goals in 57 games all Day long from Rico who basically righted the ship for us. Blandisi I think is got some skill to be a 3rd liner going forward. |

5. Devils trade Graham Black, Paul Thompson to Florida for Marc Savard and a 2018 2nd
Grade: A
6. Devils trade 11th overall (Logan Brown) to Ottawa for 12th overall (Michael McLeod) and 80th overall (Brandon Gignac)
Grade: C - Todd.Cordell
It seems to me that you're basing these grades off of what the pieces in the trade were used for down the line as opposed to the value of the trades when they were made. If #6 is a trade you make "every single time", then it should be a B+ at worst. Similarly, #5 was a good trade, but isn't an A if you don't use the 2nd rounder Johansson piece.
My take on trades is that you have to value the at the time of the trade.
Edit: But really, all you have to do to evaluate him as the Devils GM is to look at the Hall for Larsson trade. The steal was so overwhelming that nothing else he has done even matters. |

Speaking of trades Todd. Any chance Ray works his magic and tries for Trouba? We certainly need blue line help. Maybe Wood and a 2nd or 3rd? |

The cap going up certainly hampered Shero's ability to pry a forward from a cap strapped team this year. |

I'm not Todd, but I don't think Winnipeg does that. They're a Cup contender and likely are going for it this year. Next year, if they can't lock him up long-term, he may get dealt by the draft.
I hate Wood the same way that I hated Randy McKay, which is a good thing for you guys, as I hated McKay because we had to play against him. Had he been on the Flyers, I'd love him. But I don't think he's enough to throw a few picks and get Trouba given Winnipeg's current situation.
If he's an RFA next season, would you do Zacha + Severson for him? |

McLeod has more to prove, but I still like the pick over Brown. Out of the two, McLeod has more chemistry with NJ as Brown is more of a zone pressure player and probably a future PP specialist. |

I am willing to wait to see what Woods becomes. He's like our fast John Leclair! Who btw was one of my favorite players ever. |

I think Shero has done an excellent job with trades so far but on the other hand I have not been impressed with his drafting not sure how every year it seems we make the wrong pick with our 1st rounder.... unless some of our prospects start to pan out the rebuild will be unsuccessful and the devils will just have to tear it down and start from scratch especially in 2 seasons when Hall is a FA |

Any chance we make a trade at all before the season starts of any significance? Based on the last season for Severson, any chance he could get moved for Trouba with the Devs throwing in a 3rd rounder? Or for anyone else? He has the ability but hasn't shown it consistently and Hynes and him were definitely not on the same page.
I wonder if Dumba is off the table after re-signing for 5 years with MN. Severson definitely has value, is a Top 6 D man, with a very reasonable cap hit for the next 5 years. |

If Severson is that valuable with a great cap hit, why trade him for Trouba?
If Sev is gonna be traded should be for the EK65 of the world. |

Severson would likely be the complimentary piece of a big trade, not the centerpiece. He's actually my favorite Devils player, followed by Wood, but like you said, he's too inconsistent. |

I'm particularly concerned about Trouba's personality. He seems to be pretty hard to deal with. I'll pass |

LeClair took something like 50 stitches from Brodeur hitting in in the face with his stick. It was accidental and a weird injury but LeClair never complained. He was an outstanding player and person no matter what uniform he wore.
I looked it up... it was 36 stitches near his eye.... |

Yup he wants Carlson type money, but has a career high 32 points, less than half Carlson's. After 5 years of watching him in Winnipeg, all I have seen is a smooth skating, big, injury riddled, poor shut down, average offensive D man. He was second on the Jets TOI this season and tallied a whopping 3 goals. That's Adam Larsson-esque minus the defensive abilities. Way over rated. Can we please just put in the 4M offer sheet on Nurse???? Either he signs and Edmonton matches, he declines, or we get him for the price of our 2nd round pick. What do we have to lose??? |

If I was a GM, my team will be filled with Tkachuks and Leclairs |
